Every individual at one time or the other desires to be happy at all times, but sometimes unknowingly to us, there are some things that hinder us from being happy. Some of them are;

  • Over Thinking: This is very dangerous to the body and soul. it also leads to weight loss, ill health, etc. It destroys your mood. Over thinking itself cause a whole lot of  stress, complicates life, leads to anxiety and depression, causes emotional pain, guilt and trauma, it impairs decision making ability, leads to negativity and makes an individual unhappy.
  • Trying to please everyone in your life: In this situation, you lose your sense of self. We should always remember that it is our life and we should believe in our self. According to Tehyi Hsieh, “Lean too much on other people’s approval and it becomes a bed of thorns”. For us seeking approval and being loved is natural as wanting food and shelter, but it becomes a problem when you try to please everyone because it results in attracting less people, lose confidence in yourself and makes you miserable.
  • Past Mistakes: Mistakes are made in order to teach us for our future and make us even stronger. They have led you to the person you are today. Relieving painful memories from the past is a way of punishing yourself, it could lead to anxiety and depression. Remember, your time is too valuable to waste on living in the past.
  • Chasing People: You don’t need to look for persons that will make you their friend. The persons who really belong in your life, will find you and stay – Will Smith. Remember not all relationships are healthy. Instead of chasing friends who tell lies, ignore you, make you feel guilty or cause you to doubt yourself to make the relationship work, distance yourself.
  • Worrying about the future: You don’t need to think or worry about the future. All you have to do is, learn from the past, work on your present and expect amazing things in the future. Worrying about the future leaves you feeling overwhelmed, looking ill and anxious, it drains your energy and motivates fear. Moreso, there is an increased levels of the stress hormone cortisol, nausea, difficulty in concentration, intense headaches, disrupted sleep, exhaustion, etc.
  • Heartbreak and Anger: There are times when we experience things and events that really hurt us, but all we do is, brace yourself and make it a lesson because you can never change the past. It creates a harmful health effects like diarrhea, muscle aches and liver damage, and a long term physical effects like insomnia, high blood pressure, heart attack, stroke, etc.
  • Fake Friends: Friends can make us or mare us. Beware of fake friends, they only want something from you and will only be with you when the going is good. To them, you only exist when they need something. They sabotage your success and cause you anxiety and making you think of every interaction made.
  • Comparing yourself to others: Take note that everyone is special and unique in their own way. Never wish to be somebody else, because everyone has a cross to bear and race to run, therefore run your own race. Comparing yourself to others could be self destructive, leading to loss of self confidence.
  • Self Doubt: Never belittle yourself or doubt your abilities or limit yourself to what you can do because in the end you will regret the chance you did not take.
  • Time: It is true that time waits for no one but it is also true that when you start living your life by the minute, calculating every step you take, you may not actually start living the life you want.
  • Negative Thinking: Avoid negative thoughts, always be positive and replace every thought with positively. Negative thoughts closes oneself off possibilities and the flow of abundance.

There are lots of obligations required of parents in bringing up their children. Children are great gifts from God; there are replicas of our very own selves. They are born with empty slates for parents to inculcate positive attitudes and characters in them and guide them on the right path. Below are, but a few points to note;

  1. When entering the house greet your children or even hug them. This should help develop their sense of love and self-worth.
  2. Be good to your neighbours and never backbite. Never speak ill of other drivers when on the road. Your children would listen, absorb and emulate.
  3. When calling your parents, encourage your children to speak to them. When visiting your parents take your children with you. The more they see you take care of your parents the more they will learn to take care of you.
  4. When driving them to school, don’t always play albums or cds in the car. Rather tell them some motivational stories yourselves. This will have a greater impact – trust me!
  5. Read to them a short story, even a scripture a day – It doesn’t take much time, but very impactful in creating strong bonds and wonderful memories.
  6. Comb your hair, clean your teeth and wear presentable clothes even if sitting at home and not going out for the day. They need to learn that being clean and tidy has nothing to do with going out.
  7. Try not to blame or comment on every word or action they say or do. Learn to overlook and let go sometimes. This certainly builds their self confidence.
  8. Ask your children’s permission before entering their rooms. Don’t just knock and enter, but then wait for a verbal permission. They will learn to do the same when wanting to enter your room.
  9. Apologize to your children if you made a mistake. Apologizing teaches them to be humble and polite.
  10. Don’t be sarcastic or make fun of their views or feelings, even if you “didn’t mean it” and was “only joking”. It really hurts.
  11. Show respect to your children’s privacy. It’s important for their sense of value and self esteem.
  12. Don’t expect that they will listen or understand the first time. Don’t take it personal. But be patient and consistent.
  13. Pray with them. Show them how to pray. Lead by example.
  14. In addition, ask them to discuss their daily plans after morning prayers. Children without concrete daily plans usually join others in executing theirs. They fall easy to peer pressure.
  15. Hold them and bless them specially every morning.

I am pretty sure that you are already amazed by the topic, and you have words and questions running through your head like, is it wrong to pursue success? How can pursuing success lead to one’s doom? What is the writer trying to say?… Well, I will answer all your questions.

Is it wrong to pursue success?
It is never wrong to pursue success, better still I encourage young persons and determined individuals, never to be comfortable where they are, they should always strive to be successful at whatever goals they intend to achieve. They should never settle for anything less than they deserve, and to achieve success, you must be determined. Be focused on the kind of success you want to achieve that is right for you, then you would start succeeding in your life instead of chasing shadows. While you are succeeding, be careful so it doesn’t lead to your doom.

How can pursuing success lead to one’s doom?
Most of us like to be successful, which is a good thing. First, we have the thought, then we make plans, after which we set achievable goals, then set up a team to work with. Now work begins, everyone brings ideas to the table on how to make the business, organization or company to be a success. Gradually, you are being recognized, in your home, in the streets, in the village, the towns, the cities and locally, then internationally. While the growth gradually occurs, you meet new individuals, new prospects, new technology, everything begins to grow smoothly, and you gradually forget your early beginning, neglecting the team you started with. When it seems, you are getting to the peak of your success, you may find yourself loosing your foundation, and you know when a foundation is tempered with, everything from the top crumbles down. Do you know why? The people you meet, may not know how you started, they may want to bring ideas and support to the company just to be a part of it because you are already a success and they feel they may stand to gain something from it without working too hard. But when critical issues arise, they back out and you may find it difficult to start up again with the same team who started with you.

What is the writer trying to say?

  • The team who starts with you and helped you grow are the same team who would do anything for you to continue to be a success and will stick to you when issue arises. Team could mean family, employees, friends, etc.
  • Never despise little beginning
  • Tag your team along with whatever plans or success you hope to achieve.
  • Don’t allow your determination for success, make you loose the important treasures in your life.
  • No man is an island which brings us to the acronym; TEAM – Together Everyone Achieves More

It has been noticed that individuals with an unpopulous and unfamiliar skin colour referred to as Albino, often face social and cultural challenges or threats, as is often a source of ridicule, discrimination or even fear and violence, they are especially stigmatized in many African countries.

This ought not to be so, they are also normal human beings like us, but only unfortunate to have inherited this disease. Persons who are referred to as Albino are often recognized with white hair and skin, sometimes with reddish eyes. Albino/Albinism is a disease in which a person has partial or complete loss of pigmentation (colouring) of the skin, eyes and hair.

Every human has a cell called a melanocyte, gotten from melanin, which is responsible for giving skin, hair and eyes pigmentation (colouring) but in albinism, though the melanocyte is present, but the genetic mutation either from the father/mother may interfer with the pigment production, thereby resulting to an albino affecting the eyes, skin and hair colour. That is the reason you see some families where the parents would have a normal skin colour and some of their kids will be albino.

People with albinism are legally blind because the cells in the retina that detect light get over saturated with light and get confusing messages to the brain. If you look closely, you will notice that the eyes are sort of bouncing in their sockets because they are getting a confusing visual stimulus.

  • Albinos are at risk of getting cancer of the outermost layer of skin, affecting deeper layers
  • They experience premature skin aging, because melanin which prevents wrinkles is absent

The basic treatment for now, is to protect themselves from the sun.

Family – Relationship between a father and a daughter

A positive relationship between a father and a daughter can have a huge impact in a young girl’s life and help her develop into a strong, confident woman. Although having a strong male influence is important in a young boy’s life but also important in the life of a young girl.

From infancy, fathers assist their wives on changing diaper, giving bath, putting her to sleep and calming her cries. Taking care of her physical needs and playing with her.

From teen, which is a very crucial period in a girl’s life, fathers should focus on cultivating a trusting relationship so that their daughters will feel secure taking with then about what’s going on in their lives. They (fathers) should give affection and support her as she learns more about who she is and the kind of person she wants to become.

Fathers influences their daughters relationship on how she interacts with men in her adult years. If a father is absent or erratic in his behaviour, it sets his daughter up for feelings of low self esteem and trouble in trusting men in general. Research shows that women who enjoy more supportive, close relationship with their fathers tend to be less stressed and to view themselves in a more positive light compared with those who have more conflicted or toxic bonds.

  8. Treat her mother well, even if you both are no more together
  9. Tell her how much you value her intellectual abilities and characters and remind her she us beautiful inside and out.

What a daughter needs from her father

  1. She needs you to be involved in every aspect of her life

  3. She needs a father’s support
  4. She needs to trust you as a confidant
  5. She needs your unconditional love

How To Address A Crowd

Most of the times, we are shy, taken aback, restricted or even withdrawn when it comes talking to a group of people. We find ourselves amid persons, or in a crowd and all of a sudden you have been asked to prepare to address an enormous gathering or give a speech on behalf of your company and you find yourself scared or fidgeting not knowing where to begin, below are a few steps to guide you ;

  1. Write a speech: you could jot down some points you may wish to talk about in your speech.
  2. Review your speech: check for omissions and additions
  3. Be sure to practice at home if you get nervous
  4. Be yourself, don’t act to be someone else and be confident but not over confident.
  5. Make yourself note cards, this could serve as a form of reminder during your speech or better still make highlights of your speech that could serve as a guide
  6. When it finally comes down to that moment, take some seconds to breathe deeply. Try not to rush over words that your audience may not get the message or be too slow that they get bored or irritated. Say a few words at a time to keep your audience interested and go straight to the point. In order words speak distinctly.
  7. Search the crowd for a buddy or a friend, this could help you feel relaxed and stable.
  8. Begin to speak moderately and confidently, be bold and speak softly.
  9. You must use simple, concise, correct words and be straight to the point
  10. You must know the correct use of words and their right pronunciations, avoid repeating a word continuously.
  11. Make the sentences short and interesting to your listeners
  12. Do not look too serious when speaking, you must smile a bit
  13. Be clever, neat, clean, tidy and gentle all the time.
