Every individual at one time or the other desires to be happy at all times, but sometimes unknowingly to us, there are some things that hinder us from being happy. Some of them are;
- Over Thinking: This is very dangerous to the body and soul. it also leads to weight loss, ill health, etc. It destroys your mood. Over thinking itself cause a whole lot of stress, complicates life, leads to anxiety and depression, causes emotional pain, guilt and trauma, it impairs decision making ability, leads to negativity and makes an individual unhappy.
- Trying to please everyone in your life: In this situation, you lose your sense of self. We should always remember that it is our life and we should believe in our self. According to Tehyi Hsieh, “Lean too much on other people’s approval and it becomes a bed of thorns”. For us seeking approval and being loved is natural as wanting food and shelter, but it becomes a problem when you try to please everyone because it results in attracting less people, lose confidence in yourself and makes you miserable.
- Past Mistakes: Mistakes are made in order to teach us for our future and make us even stronger. They have led you to the person you are today. Relieving painful memories from the past is a way of punishing yourself, it could lead to anxiety and depression. Remember, your time is too valuable to waste on living in the past.
- Chasing People: You don’t need to look for persons that will make you their friend. The persons who really belong in your life, will find you and stay – Will Smith. Remember not all relationships are healthy. Instead of chasing friends who tell lies, ignore you, make you feel guilty or cause you to doubt yourself to make the relationship work, distance yourself.
- Worrying about the future: You don’t need to think or worry about the future. All you have to do is, learn from the past, work on your present and expect amazing things in the future. Worrying about the future leaves you feeling overwhelmed, looking ill and anxious, it drains your energy and motivates fear. Moreso, there is an increased levels of the stress hormone cortisol, nausea, difficulty in concentration, intense headaches, disrupted sleep, exhaustion, etc.
- Heartbreak and Anger: There are times when we experience things and events that really hurt us, but all we do is, brace yourself and make it a lesson because you can never change the past. It creates a harmful health effects like diarrhea, muscle aches and liver damage, and a long term physical effects like insomnia, high blood pressure, heart attack, stroke, etc.
- Fake Friends: Friends can make us or mare us. Beware of fake friends, they only want something from you and will only be with you when the going is good. To them, you only exist when they need something. They sabotage your success and cause you anxiety and making you think of every interaction made.
- Comparing yourself to others: Take note that everyone is special and unique in their own way. Never wish to be somebody else, because everyone has a cross to bear and race to run, therefore run your own race. Comparing yourself to others could be self destructive, leading to loss of self confidence.
- Self Doubt: Never belittle yourself or doubt your abilities or limit yourself to what you can do because in the end you will regret the chance you did not take.
- Time: It is true that time waits for no one but it is also true that when you start living your life by the minute, calculating every step you take, you may not actually start living the life you want.
- Negative Thinking: Avoid negative thoughts, always be positive and replace every thought with positively. Negative thoughts closes oneself off possibilities and the flow of abundance.
